The Plans for Renewing Place Riel
The schematic drawings for the renewed Place Riel have been updated! To view the new plans for the renovations to Upper and Lower Place Riel, please click below (Adobe Acrobat format):

Two main areas scheduled for renovation - the Main Level or "front door" to the University of Saskatchewan, and the Lower Level, which currently houses a number of offices, retail spaces, and food services. The renovation schematics currently propose a restructuring of the building space, resulting in expanded office and retail space, and a more efficient traffic flow for both levels of the facility. Please click on the graphics below to get an expanded view of the floor plan schematics.

Main Level
The Main Level, better known as Upper Place Riel, is proposed to be expanded to meet the demands of a growing student population at the University of Saskatchewan. Current schematic plans for the area include the addition of a four-storey building beyond the north doors of Upper Place Riel (see Main Level map). The new building, at approximately 800 square meters per floor, will incorporate expanded office and student meeting facilities.
On the main level of the new building, additional seating will be installed, and office and retail space expanded, including a new Student Council Chamber on the west side of the space. The new design will also allow for more efficient traffic flow for students walking in a south/north direction, as well as west towards the renovated lower level. Additional seating reorganization is proposed to encourage walking traffic flow in north/south directions (click on the map above for an expanded view of the area).

Student Centre Building Addition
The Student Centre building addition wil be located on the north side of the Main Level (building area is indicated by the red dotted line). The new addition will be four storeys in height, and will contain office space and resource rooms dedicated to bettering the student experience. The University of Saskatchewan Students' Union offices will be located on the 2nd floor, while a new University Student Health Centre and Student Counselling are proposed to be located on the 3rd and 4th floors.

Lower Level
The proposed Lower Level renovations include some important changes to layout, seating and traffic flow. An integrated food court area is proposed, where food vendors will be clustered in the south and southwest portion of the facility. An expanded food court seating area will accommodate approximately 210 students at one time. It is anticipated that the integrated food court area will have a significant positive impact on walking traffic flow in the Lower Level.
Office and retail space will also be improved, with large areas provided for Global Commons, the Campus Cove and Computer Store locations. A new elevator will be installed, while the existing escalators will be removed and replaced by an expanded staircase. A new northeast exit will be created to guide walking traffic towards Marquis Hall (click on map for an expanded view).
