Place Riel Green: Building Today for the Planet's Future

Renovating an existing building or constructing a new addition in an environmentally conscious manner can be very challenging. The Renew Place Riel project is following the many necessary steps required to qualify for LEED certification.

Below is a month-by-month listing of just a few of the major ways and means the Place Riel renovation and construction crews are doing their part to help protect the environment. Check back here frequently to see the latest updates.

September 2009
Recycling: Concrete waste hauled to University of Saskatchewan recycling facility. Ceramic tiles hauled to City recycling facility. Drywall and wood waste to be hauled to TITAN recycling facility in Craik.

Donations: Insulation donated to Habitat For Humanity.

August 2009
Recycling: Concrete waste hauled to University of Saskatchewan recycling facility. Ceramic tiles hauled to City recycling facility.

July 2009
LEED Environmental Measures: C0, natural gas and propane sensor alarms installed in lower level of Marquis Hall.

Recycling: Drywall and clean wood waste shipped to compost site.

Donations: Excavated dirt and tailings donated to City Landfill. Glazing, millwork, insulation donated to Habitat For Humanity.

June 2009
LEED Environmental Measures: Mini weir installed on catch basins (north of Murray Building), wheel wash pad installed to reduce erosion.

Recycling: Metal pieces recycled through BN Metals.

Donations: Excavated dirt given to city to level city landfill. Salvaged stones donated to the University of Saskatchewan. Electrical fixtures, glazing, millwork, cabinetry and insulation donated to Habitat For Humanity.

May 2009
LEED Environmental Measures: Silt fence and catch basin implemented to help reduce erosion effects.

Recycling: Concrete and asphalt hauled to recycling facilities. Metal pieces recycled through BN Metals.

Donations: Drywall, doors, windows, cabinetry, ceiling tiles donated to Habitat For Humanity. Stones donated to the University of Saskatchewan.
